Information technology (IT) is an industry that demands constant training and recertification. In information technology, innovations tend to happen with much greater frequency than in other industries and on a much wider scale. Continuing education in information technology is crucial in the modern workplace--even outside the IT department.

We're All in IT

The November 30, 2006 release of Microsoft's Vista highlights the urgency of basic IT knowledge for anyone who relies heavily on the Microsoft-based operating system (and the majority of people do). Come 2007, office workers in every field can expect to learn a whole new set of rules, compatibility workarounds, and programming languages if they want to harness all that this much anticipated release promises.

What Type of IT Training Should You Receive?

Information technology is an incredibly large industry whose boundaries have become blurred due to its widespread application. In other words, IT is crucial in just about any field. It's almost impossible to excel in business, law, or education without mastering the Microsoft suite (or Linux, Apple, or any of the other major platforms).

So whether you are an academic, manufacturer, architect, or business person, your information technology education should at least provide training in word processing, e-mail communications, internet research, and related fields.

Also, given how comprehensive the new Vista changes will be, you'll probably need to learn the basics of this new operating system. Take Vista's networking capabilities, for example. Companies that fully embrace Vista's innovative sharing and collaboration features will have a decisive advantage over companies that do not. Increased security and data protection are also major staples of this operating system overhaul.

Microsoft Is Not the Only Reason Why You Might Want IT Training

Although Vista has certainly been dominating the news lately, it's not the only reason for securing an information technology education. Learning about HTML, Joomla, Cisco Systems, C++, or Java will not only make you a smarter, more competitive employee, but it can also render you much less dependent on IT professionals who can afford to charge exorbitant prices because of their specialized training.

In other words, the more extensive your information technology education is, the more of an asset you can become in any industry or profession.
