Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently announced an ambitious and widespread campaign to insure the 6 million or so Californians who currently lack medical coverage. This bold move signals a radically new direction in which businesses and politicians are going out of their way to make sure that the roughly 50 million Americans without insurance can find affordable treatment at local facilities. It is unclear whether or not Schwarzenegger's plan will succeed, but if it does, this might give an even greater boost to the number of health care jobs that experts predict will surface in the coming years.
Overall Health Care Employment
Health care employment is expected to be extremely favorable, according to the US Department of Labor, due to increased life expectancy, medical breakthroughs, and baby boomer retirement. Whereas other industries may or may not flourish depending on the economy, health care is expected to become one of the fastest growing industries, creating new jobs at almost every level of the medical establishment. Even alternative medical fields (like massage therapy) will receive a boost as a more enlightened general public will likely explore many options outside of traditional clinical treatments.
Preparing for Health Care Jobs
Despite what you may have once believed, you don't necessarily need a ton of medical school training to get involved with the health care industry. Doctors and surgeons only account for a small fraction of overall health care employment. There are jobs ranging from the extremely specific all the way down to the utterly mundane. Medical coders, nurses, transcribers, billers, and technicians, for example, can complete the bulk of their health care training through online certification at the associate or bachelor level.
Securing all the employment skills necessary to transition from your current job or vocation to a career that promises growth, opportunity, and security is as easy as logging on and signing in. There are countless online health care programs that can help you prepare for and apply to some of the best health care jobs on the market.
