Tom Cruise Gives Gift Of Ultrasound
Tom Cruise has put himself at the forefront of radiology technology by buying his fiance an ultrasound machine so that they can carefully track the development of their child, due to be born next Spring.
Unwittingly perhaps, Tom Cruise has thrust himself into the cutting edge of radiology-based medicine. More and more different fields of medicine are including radiological procedures. Radiology can now replace certain invasive surgery practices, saving hospitals and patients a lot of money (and pain).
Radiology Career for the Stars
Now Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are bringing Radiology home, though at a price. According to the BBC, the ultrasound Cruise surprised Holmes with costs roughly $200,000 retail. Tom Cruise says he is going to donate the machine to a hospital once Katie Holmes delivers.
Tom Cruise made the announcement regarding the machine during the yearly Barbara Walters Thanksgiving special, The Years Most Fascinating People.
Radiology Jobs on the Increase
Because radiology equipment is radioactive, machines are not commonly used in homes or in residential environments. In fact, the number of radiology centers and clinics are vastly expanding, making a radiology career one of the wisest career choices out there.
Though the interview doesn't mention what kind of assistance Holmes and Cruise will get for their home machine, it is clear they will need some. A radiology technician, one of the more common radiology jobs, will have to be on hand to ensure the highly technical equipment is being used and maintained properly.
New Child for Tom Cruise
Cruise was previously married to actress Nicole Kidman, with who he adopted two children, Connor, 10, and Isabella, 12.
Cruise Contradicts Scientology Critics
In addition to mentioning the ultrasound machine, Tom Cruise takes time in the Barbara Walters interview to slam critics of Scientology, who claim that women practicing the religion are not allowed to make sound when giving birth.
"There have been misinterpretations that the woman can't make any noise," said Tom Cruise.
"It's just not true. It's nutty. Whatever she's going through she's going to go through. And I'm going to be there."
A radiology technician will probably be there, too.
