If jumping headfirst into the restaurant industry is a bit daunting, you can even land a part-time job in the beginning. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, roughly 40% of all food service workers are part-time employees, so you would be in good company. Such part-time access would allow you to get your feet wet, amass some experience, and reached a workable comfort level with your newfound skills.

After graduating, you can make a median salary of roughly $15 an hour. Although if you manage to land a position at an exclusive restaurant or five-star hotel in a large metropolitan area, don't be surprised if you earn almost twice that amount.
